CA Urban Rail Transit is Irrational. Period.

This analysis from good friend, Richard Rider.

Check out the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE article of 27 September, 2009 on commuting in San Diego County.  The story got little consideration, but is a blockbuster when it comes to totally discrediting our massive trolley expenditures.  The madness of the trolley folly becomes readily apparent.

Of the (still employed) folks in our county who commute to work, 90.9% drive vehicles. Only 3.5% use public transportation. Of that 3.5%, only 9% of these public transit users ride the trolleys. That comes to 0.315% of all county commuters ride our multi-billion dollar trolley boondoggle. Almost 9 times as many commuters ride the buses as ride the trolleys.

It gets worse.  SANDAG admits that about ¾ of the trolley riders used to take the bus.  Hence only about 0.07875% of the trolley commuters are former car commuters.  For the numerically impaired, that comes to less than eight one-hundredths of one percent of former car commuters now do part or all of their work commute on a trolley.

For this miniscule usage, we have spent (as the late Carl Sagan used to so elegantly intone) “billions and billions” of dollars on construction – plus tens of millions more annually in subsidies.

If we REALLY care about public transit, we should be pushing for shifting SANDAG policy (and funding) emphasis from light rail to far lower cost, more efficient, far more utililized and far more flexible buses.

Let’s end our trolley “edifice complex.”

LibLogic(sic)

I have heard today on several venues that the libs are calling for a boycott of “Arizona Tea.”

(LibLogic)

Arizona Tea was founded in Brooklyn, and is brewed in New York.

(Sigh!)

Can Local Authority Enforce Federal Law?

Some question if local authorities can enforce federal law.

Well, they do bank robbery!

Another federal crime for which local officers have initial responsibility is kidnapping.

Should local authorities be banned from being the first responders in bank robberies and kidnapping?

Should local authorities be banned from arresting military people who are AWOL? That is a federal responsibility with absolutely no local concern.

Should that be banned?

NYC has its own terrorist police! They even have overseas bureaus that track terrorist activity in Europe — but terrorism is obviously a federal responsibility.

Should that be banned?

I have more…but that should suffice for getting an answer…although I have yet to get an answer to the exact wording of the law that requires or even permits what the liberals are charging.

The Arizona law does not supersede federal law – it enforces federal law, law that the federal government does not have thr resources to enforce as a “first responder” – just as they act in bank robbery, and kidnapping and AWOL soldiers.

BTW, it is NOT unusual for immigrants to be required to carry and display their “papers.’ My Green Card worker is REQUIRED to carry and display his Green Card when stopped by ANY legal authority.

Illegal Alien Children

I have expressed this many times before but let’s try one more time:

O.K. Here is my position on illegal alien children. So long as they are here they should be treated as we do legal immigrants who apply for visas to American colleges – they cannot be admitted until they first pass a literacy test to prove they can handle education at the appropriate level. Illegal alien children should be schooled in English and other subjects in immersion classes at public school until they can operate at grade level.

I do not support deporting ANYONE except convicted criminals and those who run afoul of some criminal law.

I support enforcing current immigration laws rigorously, until the pressure is so great that FAMILIES deport themselves. When the pain exceeds the pleasure by a significant amount, the magnet will be reversed.

However, there is a segment – BSU – that support making life easier for illegal aliens. So long as they hold sway in sanctuary cities and in general (although they really don’t because the polls show they are in the distinct minority), the magnet will continue.

Let’s face facts. Schools will continue to teach every swinging Richard that can find who can fog a mirror — because it pays the $30+ a day in ADA — Average Daily Attendance.

That is why they hate you taking your child out of school for a day at Disneyland, or to protest or support anything.

That is why several East county school districts were sending school buses TO THE BORDER to pick up children just a few years ago!

If the animal rights people get their wish for human rights for some simians — there will be lawsuits among school districts to see who registers the chimps at the SD Zoo!

And tonight, through Arizona will come several thousand more. And tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow…

“Mayor Gavin Newsom may be San Francisco’s leader, but he’s only 29th on the list of highest-paid city employees, more than a third of whose earnings topped $100,000 last year.
Newsom, whose salary is $250,903, is one of 9,487 workers who grossed more than $100,000 last year, including overtime.

Top earner Charles Keohane, a former deputy police chief who earned $516,118, retired last year, cashing out stored-up vacation, sick days and comp time.

The highest salary among the city’s nearly 27,000 workers is $332,489, earned by Nathaniel Ford, head of the agency that runs the city’s light rail and bus systems.”
