Note To Self: Buy Kevlar Stock

“Julian Assange, the Australian who heads the secret-sharing Web site, told ABC News today he believes his safety and freedom are in danger. He responded to questions by email from a clandestine hideout.

He was undaunted by vows from the U.S. and Australia to prosecute him and said the forthcoming diplomatic cables are aimed at “lying, corrupt and murderous leadership from Bahrain to Brazil.”

Well, perhaps, but so far the only damage done is to the United States reputation abroad – they are going to be reluctant to deal with us because we can’t safeguard secrets. But then I have noticed others who write as if they also consider the United States “lying, corrupt and murderous leadership” – I guess because the current administration continues so many of the Bush-era programs here on Day 678.

I suppose there will be actual damages – people losing life and limb from the WikiLeaks, but I have not seen that or anything that might lead to that, thus far.

Is it embarrassing? You betcha’!

Of course there is more to come.

Rush makes the point that the government can shut down and seize music websites, why can’t it do the same in the case of national security?

(The answer is the {In}-Justice Department.)

If I were Mr. Assange, I wouldn’t much fear a United States that can’t even prosecute terrorists they have had in custody for many years (as if that needs to be done at all), but there are other regimes around the world that may decide he is just too much of a risk for their secrets.

If I were Mr. Assange, I would order up a set of Kevlar Jockey shorts – although the assassination of the nuclear scientist in Iran these past few days would justify a full Kevlar body suit and an armored car.

That was a nice piece of work! (Scientist was driving his car. A motorcycle pulled alongside, and placed a magnetic bomb on the driver-side door…then the motorcycle sped away at a high rate of speed just before the explosion. Can’t imagine who would do such a thing! Awful!)

But I would look at the same people who have crippled the Iranian nuclear facilities with hostile software…whomever that may be.

Today Is the 678th Day of the Presidency…

Flash! Today, on day 678 of his presidency,  President Obama did NOT:

1) Bring the troops home

2) Close GITMO

3) Try Khalid Shaikh Mohammed in civilian court

4) End spying on UN diplomats (which he ordered July, 2009)

5) Stopped Rendition

7) End the Patriot Act

8) End “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” by Executive Order

9) Successfully push through a Congress (both Houses dominated by HIS political party) an Immigration Reform Bill…

“…provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on earth. This was the moment—this was the time—when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves and our highest ideals. “

(Headline) Cancun climate change summit: scientists call for rationing in developed world

(Subhead) Global warming is now such a serious threat to mankind that climate change experts are calling for Second World War-style rationing in rich countries to bring down carbon emissions.

Retrospective Morality

There is a common thread among some liberals to trash the US for it’s “imperialistic” attitudes, and the start with our founding and the treatment of the Indians.

I do not deny that settlers and Indians were both savage in their relationships, in a world ruled by the aggressive use of force.

(As it is today, but more selectively.)

The entire world settlers in the new world no less — were seeking more territory, or minerals, or something, trading where they could and taking where trade was not useful.

The settlers and the Indians were people of their time, even as are we. In 200 years we will be called at least uncivilized, and in 400 years probably called savages.

No one can live in any time other than their own, or understand other times. But some people want to put their more civilized views on the past, which has NEVER been more civilized than the present or will be in the future.

It is sophistry to believe otherwise.

Bono No Bueno!

I have this T-Shirt which reads: “I’m Greener Than Al & Arnold” – but of course, everyone is!

People seem to be all Ga-Ga with some celebrity named Bono, who has, I am told, been to the White House and is well regarded in the environmental community – calling for everyone to be Green.

It seems his latest tour is in Australia, where he bragged about the size and cost of the tour being larger than even some group named U2 9or something.)

Bono says HIS tour take SIX 747 aircraft, and 55 trucks!

Green, indeed…perhaps a new T-shirt, “I’m Greener Than Bono! (but so is everyone…)”

WikiLeaks Founding

Way, way down in the article in today’s LA Times on the WikiLeaks controversy – In fact the last paragraph, contains:

“WikiLeaks was founded in 2006 to promote transparency, especially in nations ruled by repressive regimes. Its leaks have been controversial, including the tens of thousands of Pentagon documents on Afghanistan. U.S. authorities are investigating the unauthorized release but have yet to identify who passed the information to WikiLeaks.”,0,4307968.story?track=latiphoneapp

Which begs the obvious question:  Since the leaks started months ago, they have primarily if not exclusively embarrassed the United States – so does the WikiLeaks organization consider the United States under President Obama, one of the “nations ruled by repressive regimes?”

“Eat The Rich?”

Having watched This Week this morning, I call upon Issa, et al, to introduce a bill increasing, indeed doubling the taxes by name on both Gates, junior and senior, Buffett, and Turner — each of which supports higher taxes for themselves.

We have a huge deficit — let’s address it partially with those who WANT to pay it.

(Yes, I know. They can write a check and send it to the US government TODAY, but perhaps they are so wealthy that they do not understand “check” and “post office” — but they have personal staff.)

Mining the WikiLeaks Material (Part One)

“At the start of a series of daily extracts from the US embassy cables – many of which are designated “secret” – the Guardian can disclose that Arab leaders are privately urging an air strike on Iran and that US officials have been instructed to spy on the UN’s leadership.”

Really interesting stuff.

Compulsory Christians

Really interesting to hear Ted Turner on This Week with WhatsHerName rave about Rwanda, where he lauds the ruler for requiring all citizens to spend hours each third Saturday picking up trash in the neighborhood.

It is apparent that an assignment of “authoritarian” to some liberals, holds.

Clue to Coffee Drinkers

Clue: COSTCO is introducing & carrying a new coffee K-Cup for Keurig machines — a 100% Colombian by Folgers.

Yes, Folgers!

for those whose epicurean tastes blanch at the thought of “Folgers,Gourmet” — it is not half bad. In fact it is pretty good.

There are many brands, many blends and many roasts to choose from (I usually prefer Tully Kona Blend, personally, but a lot of us change off our coffees like we do our music, depending on the mood.)

Perhaps you can find a place for a new K-Cup in your larder.
